Gentile refers to non-Israelites, and collectively designates the peoples and nations as distinct from the Israelite people.

Linguistics

The term is sometimes used as a translation of the Hebrew word gôy (^[Strong's\ #1471]^) in the King James Version of the Bible.^[1]^ In the New Testament the Greek word ethnos (^[Strong's\ #1484]^) is used more specifically to indicate non-Jews.
