Formatting
I wish I could help you with formatting, but I don't know how. Gomarus and I are on the basics level, whereas everyone else seems to know more stuff, especially Aaron and Tom. They would be able to help more. Sorry. JordanBarrett (talk) 15:31, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Join IRC
Hey, Aaron, Tom, and I are on IRC Theopedia:Chat for a little while if you want to join in. --J. J. 21:57, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's been 4,000,000,000 years since I've even tried IRC. I've downloaded the program and am trying to figure it out... Aquatiki 22:12, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Templates
Out of curiosity, are all of these templates going into use right away? I'm not even sure how to use half. :) I saw you've added some to the list of templates. It'd be good to have them all on there, with examples of how to use them. Thanks for setting them all up. JordanBarrett (talk) 12:38, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Some of the complicated math one's represent my attempts to figure out programming in the language of MediaWiki. It's not going so well! :-( Aquatiki 13:39, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
New users
Also, it has been mentioned anywhere on Theopedia yet, but some of us had decided to not worry about welcoming new users who don't make any edits. It's not a kind of "edit to earn your welcome" kind of thing. :) If you haven't noticed already, we get a fair amount of new users who simply create a user name and that's it - never to be seen again. It's weird, but we don't bother with it. You can choose, though, to do whatever you want. It's not policy. JordanBarrett (talk) 12:41, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oh,Okay. Why do they even make an account, then? How odd. Aquatiki 13:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- Good question. It is a puzzlement. :-) But I would guess 85-90% of the last 100 registrants have never contributed a single word. Therefore our "welcomes" are creating needless extra pages on the server. If it were possible and helpful to the system, I would take all registrations over 3 months old without any contributions and delete them altogether -- its wasted space somewhere. - Another reason why it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a trial run of allowing non-registered users. Sometimes, people see something they're just itching to change, but they have to register to do it. I've never really understood welcome templates in general; I don't like receiving them, either. I think it's a lot better if people give a more personal greeting to a new user who has contributed more than a few edits; a simple mention of the Community Portal covers pretty much all of the welcome material. --J.
