Unmerited Favor?
Hey guys, I see grace here is identified as unmerited favor. This works great for a two-word summary of the doctrine of grace, but as a definition, I'm not sure it suffices. In Luke 2:40, for example, God's grace is on Jesus, but was that unmerited?
What I'm trying to say is that the definition is fine for grace as a technical term, but it simply isn't what the word means, either in Greek or in Hebrew. Berkhof acknowledges a much wider semantic range in just a few sentences.
That said, I would love to build up a theology of grace to certainly include God's unmerited favor toward sinners--I'm just saying I'd like to start by stepping back a bit and then getting to that point.Raymond Rishty 07:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Raymond, I hear what you're saying and agree with you. If you have the time, feel free to expand the article (and the initial definition!). This article definitely needs some attention. Jordan Barrett (talk) 18:48, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
