Talk:Compatibilism
From Theopedia
choosing in accordance with our nature
The example, that "we choose to eat because we are naturally hungary" is not clearly applicable in my mind. For example, I can choose not to eat if my greater desire is to "protest" by starving myself. This is more a matter of the heart and mind than the body. I think. :-) Gomarus 10:48, 18 November 2005 (EST)

- How about this: We can't choose not to be hungry. -Aaronshaf 10:55, 18 November 2005 (EST)
I think the key is we are talking about our "moral" nature, not our physical nature. I'll insert the word "moral" in the text to make that clear. Gomarus 10:58, 18 November 2005 (EST)

Perhaps compatibilism in the abstract definition should be primarily defined without it sounding like it merely exists as response to libetarianism? -Aaronshaf 10:53, 18 November 2005 (EST)
