Talk:Apostle
From Theopedia
Articles on the individuals
I notice there is an article entitled Peter, needing clean-up, and an essentially blank article on Paul, and pages on the James's to differentiate the multiples. There may potentially be a need for separate articles on John and perhaps Matthew, but I'm not sure if others will be necessary. What little we know about the remaining apostles could be integrated into this Apostle page. Comments? Gomarus 10:02, 20 Oct 2005 (EDT)
- I think that's a good idea. Perhaps we sould create articles like "Andrew" and redirect them to this page. JordanBarrett 12:47, 20 Oct 2005 (EDT)
Modern Apostles
I just removed the newly added section on "Modern Apostles". I think this should be discussed on this Talk page before incorporation into the article. I believe the conservative Protestant theological postion is that the gift of Apostleship was reserved for those specifically called such in the NT, and that there are no modern Apostles as such, and therefore contrary to Theopedia's preferred POV. The word apostle may be used generically to refer to one who is "sent", and we are to be ambassadors of Christ in this sense. But this is not the office or gift of Apostleship. Arguments to the contrary may be fairly presented, but must be accompanied by reputable published sources in citation. Thanks, Jim Ellis 17:22, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- It would be useful to state that position in the article . Subarctic guy 13:33, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
