[edit] General principles

  • Search to see whether someone has written a similar page before you start one yourself.
  • Review conventions of the project you are working in regarding e.g.:
    • the naming; see also Naming conventions.
    • whether a separate page is justified; perhaps it is better to add the text to a related page (especially if the text is not very long); that page can always be split later, after it has grown.

[edit] Starting a page from an existing link or after creating one

If you see a link in red (e.g. I do not exist yet), you can click on this link and provide information for the new article.

Another way to begin an article is to do the following:

  • In the address bar on your screen type in the article you want to create. For example, a link to the Main Page is simply http://www.theopedia/Main_Page. Notice the slash ( / ) and the underscore ( _ ). To create a page on John Doe you can delete the Main_Page and type in John_Doe, so that your address bar shows http://www.theopedia.com/John_Doe. This will take you to the new article, and simply click edit and begin the new article. Note: Remember to double-check if the article already exists under a different name or title by going to the search bar.
